BioBlitz
Presented by the Southeastern Grasslands Institute
Join Hope Wilson and the SGI team for a fun day of exploration and discovery as we document the amazing plants and animals at this diverse site! With help from SGI staff, you'll learn how to use the iNaturalist or Seek app on your personal mobile device and sharpen your species ID skills—no experience needed. This BioBlitz is a great way to dip your toes into community science, and your observations will directly support SGI’s grassland restoration efforts.
You’ll get to choose your own adventure, whether it’s wandering through a bog, a wet meadow, a dry meadow, or exploring unique transition zones. Come ready to explore, learn, and contribute—your science adventure awaits! Expert assistance and friendly faces are provided for this fun event.
What is NOT provided? Please be prepared with:
- a fully charged personal phone with iNaturalist or Seek app previously downloaded;
- appropriate footwear with ankle support, and muck boots if you plan on cautiously investigating the bog;
- Long pants, insect repellent, wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen;
- Water - be sure to bring water. And bring water also. It will be hot so bring water. You will want to stay hydrated; bring water.
Volunteers will gather at the main cabin, ready to begin at 10AM; park close to the main cabin on the right side of the property or along the gravel road. Facilities are available to all participants inside the main cabin. Oh yeah, one more very important thing - bring water.
