Bask Retreat Center is seeking a thoughtful, experienced Retreat Chef to support our retreat programming through nourishing, seasonal, and beautifully prepared meals. This role is ideal for someone who understands food as part of the overall retreat experience — grounding, restorative, community-building, and deeply connected to the land.
The Retreat Chef will be responsible for planning, preparing, and executing meals for retreats, private gatherings, workshops, and special events at Bask. This includes creating menus that align with each retreat’s tone and schedule, preparing meals for groups of varying sizes, accommodating dietary restrictions, managing kitchen flow, and helping create a warm, intentional dining experience for guests.
This person should be comfortable working in a retreat environment where meals are not just service points, but meaningful moments of connection, rest, and nourishment.
Key Responsibilities
The Retreat Chef will be responsible for:
- Creating seasonal, retreat-appropriate menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and special gatherings
- Preparing meals for retreats, overnight guests, workshops, and private events
- Cooking with sensitivity to dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other special diets
- Coordinating with the Bask team and retreat leaders to understand group needs, retreat schedules, meal timing, and overall experience goals
- Managing ingredient sourcing, grocery lists, food ordering, prep timelines, and kitchen inventory
- Preparing meals that feel nourishing, abundant, beautiful, and aligned with Bask’s holistic retreat environment
- Supporting the flow of meals, including setup, plating or buffet presentation, service timing, cleanup, and kitchen resets
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen before, during, and after each retreat
- Handling food storage, labeling, sanitation, and safe preparation practices
- Adapting menus and meal plans based on group size, budget, seasonality, and available ingredients
- Building or coordinating a support team when needed, including prep cooks, servers, dish support, or assistants for larger retreats and events
- Creating systems that make retreat meal service smooth, organized, and repeatable
- Communicating clearly with the Bask team around needs, timelines, costs, and prep requirements
- Bringing creativity, calm leadership, and flexibility to a dynamic hospitality environment
Ideal Experience
The ideal Retreat Chef has experience with retreat cooking, private events, hospitality, catering, farm-to-table dining, wellness food, or group meal service. They should feel confident creating menus that are both nourishing and approachable, with an understanding that retreat guests may be looking for food that feels healthy, grounding, and memorable without being overly complicated.
Experience cooking for groups, managing dietary restrictions, and leading a small kitchen team is strongly preferred.
Ideal Qualities
We are looking for someone who is:
- Calm, organized, and dependable under pressure
- Creative with seasonal, wellness-oriented, and retreat-style menus
- Comfortable cooking for groups of different sizes
- Highly attentive to dietary restrictions and guest care
- Clean, efficient, and respectful of shared kitchen spaces
- Collaborative with retreat leaders, practitioners, and the Bask team
- Able to work independently while also leading support staff when needed
- Flexible and solution-oriented in a remote retreat environment
- Warm, grounded, and aligned with Bask’s values of restoration, nature, hospitality, and intentional gathering
About the Role
This is a retreat-based chef role, meaning the schedule will vary depending on bookings, events, and retreat programming. Some retreats may require multi-day meal service, while others may involve single-day events, workshops, or private group experiences. The Retreat Chef should be comfortable working in a rural/nature-based setting and helping shape food experiences that support the overall rhythm of each gathering.
At Bask, meals are part of the retreat itself. They are moments to gather, restore, reconnect, and feel cared for. We are looking for a chef who can bring that philosophy into the kitchen and help create food experiences that guests remember long after they leave the land.

The Role
As our Property Maintenance & Operations Assistant, you will work directly with the Property Manager to handle day-to-day care and upkeep of our 40+ acre retreat center, including multiple guest buildings, lodging cabins, communal spaces, gardens, trails, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on buildings and facilities (painting, minor carpentry, drywall repair, door/hardware fixes, etc.)
• Assist with basic plumbing and electrical tasks (unclogging drains, replacing fixtures, changing ballasts/light fixtures, troubleshooting outlets, etc.)
• Operate and maintain equipment including skid steer, tractor, mowers, chainsaws, UTVs, and small engines
• Diagnose and repair equipment as needed (mechanical aptitude is a big plus)
• Maintain grounds: mowing, weed-eating, pruning, leaf blowing and trail clearing
• Care for gardens and landscaping: planting, weeding, mulching and watering (general plant knowledge is a big plus)
• Firewood splitting/stacking and irrigation management
• Monitor all buildings and spaces daily, quickly addressing any issues or safety concerns
• Keep shop, tools, and storage areas clean and organized
• Assist with set-up and tear-down for retreats and events (moving tables/chairs, outdoor set-ups, etc.)
• Occasionally respond to after-hours emergencies
Who You Are
• A proactive self-starter who sees what needs to be done and does it without constant supervision
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Physically fit and able to lift 50–75 lbs regularly, work on ladders, and be on your feet most of the day
• Practical experience in general maintenance, landscaping, or construction (professional or personal projects both count)
• Comfortable and safe using power tools and equipment
• Basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills (you don’t need to be a licensed pro, but you can confidently handle common repairs)
• Experience operating a skid steer/loader or tractor is a strong plus
• Knowledge of plants, trees, and garden care is a big advantage
• Positive, guest-friendly attitude – you may interact with retreat guests from time to time
• Reliable transportation and ability to live within a reasonable commute
