A Winter Invitation to Slow Down and Reconnect

The Way of Tea is a four-day winter retreat for people who want to step away from the pace of daily life and give their attention to something deeper. Before arriving at Bask, guests read Kakuzō Okakura’s The Book of Tea. Together, we’ll use its ideas as a starting point for conversation and journaling, then explore them through tea, movement, and time in nature.

Planned experiences include guided meditation, qigong, a Japanese tea ceremony, sensory walks, plant ecology, a native-plant kusamono workshop, and nourishing shared meals. There will also be generous time to rest, reflect, or simply be still, with an optional sauna and cold plunge experience.

With no more than 20 guests at each retreat, there is room for meaningful conversation and personal reflection. No previous experience with meditation, qigong, tea ceremony, or retreats is needed.

Who Is This For?

This retreat is for the intellectually curious, spiritually open and quietly overwhelmed.

The Way of Tea may be especially meaningful for people who:

  • Feel overstimulated by technology, information or the pace of modern life.
  • Want practical ways to support greater calm and nervous-system awareness.
  • Are interested in Eastern philosophy, meditation, qigong or tea culture.
  • Feel restored by thoughtful conversations and the exchange of ideas.
  • Are curious about the relationship between plants, people and place.
  • Find the winter months physically or emotionally challenging.
  • Want to develop a deeper relationship with seasonal rhythms.
  • Are drawn to both scientific inquiry and contemplative practice.
  • Long to experience nature as something more than scenery.
  • Want to leave with practices they can continue at home.

No previous experience with meditation, qigong, tea ceremony or retreat participation is required.
