Moss Journey: A Restorative Retreat for Veterans at Bask
The Moss Journey is a donation funded somatic healing retreat created specifically for Veterans seeking rest, connection, and support in an environment designed to foster reflection, restoration, and growth. From July 30 through August 2, Veterans are invited to Bask for a restorative experience led by Kacey Cardin and Jeff Zacharski that combines somatic healing practices, nature immersion, guided reflection, and meaningful community.
Throughout the retreat, participants will have the opportunity to step away from the demands of daily life and reconnect with themselves in an environment designed to support healing and renewal. At Bask, healing is supported by the forests, creeks, and open spaces that surround us, creating a setting where slowing down feels natural.

Throughout the weekend, Veterans will be guided through somatic practices that help cultivate awareness of the body, regulate the nervous system, and support emotional healing. Rather than focusing solely on conversation, the Moss Journey embraces the understanding that healing can begin by reconnecting with the body's innate wisdom. Through movement, reflection, nature immersion, and intentional community, participants are invited into a process that is both grounding and restorative.
The experience extends beyond the retreat sessions themselves. Shared meals create opportunities for connection and conversation. Quiet mornings offer time to enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to the sounds of the creek or watching the mist rise over the hills. Time spent walking forest trails, resting beneath the trees, or simply sitting in stillness allows space for reflection and renewal.

Participants will stay in Bask's thoughtfully designed accommodations, where comfort and simplicity complement the natural beauty of the retreat experience. Whether staying in one of our geodomes, cabins, or lodge accommodations, guests are invited to settle into spaces that encourage rest while remaining connected to the surrounding forests and meadows.

For many Veterans, the weight of service, transition, stress, grief, or trauma can be difficult to carry alone. The Moss Journey offers space to set those burdens down, even briefly, and experience support in community with others who understand. It is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with the present moment, and explore practices that can continue to offer support long after the retreat concludes.
This retreat is made possible through donations, which help cover lodging, meals, facilitation, retreat materials, and the care needed to create a supportive healing environment. Each contribution helps make this experience accessible to Veterans who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend.
At Bask, we believe healing happens in relationship with ourselves, with one another, and with the natural world. The Moss Journey is an invitation to experience all three.
